Actual espionage...
It's such a shame we just don't get more movies like this.
The plot for this was simple, and while most of us could see what was coming a mile away (the Commie general wanting to off the guy who was helping people escape the wall), the added sub-plots about Palmer's job (and life) being in jeopardy, while also trying to deal with the messy situation involving the ex-Nazi was really intriguing.
It's funny that the simplicity of this plot was so much more engaging than so many other Bond flicks and other over-the-top spy-thrillers that have to add all of this other convoluted intrigue to ratchet up the drama.
This was also an expertly edited film -- the runtime was spot-on and it never lingered on any single one scene more than it had to. Great scenarios, set-pieces, and a well-earned climax, too.
It's so unfortunate how so many newer films have somehow moved away from being as taut, well paced, and smart as this film.
