I don´t think the colours or even the B&W footage has been refined or altered in some way for the DVD version.
As far as I know the idea of restoration (process applyed to any important film in order to present a high definition version in DVD or any other format)is not refine or change in any way the original aspect or even the sound (of course if we´re talking about a serious process of restoration, not the THX super surround sound or who knows what other thing made to sell more copies) The idea is respect the original, presenting to audiences or DVD buyers the closest experience to the original film.
I had the chance to watch this movie in a theatre and I must admit it has the most beautiful colours I´ve seen in any movie. The colours are so vivid... just amazing!
