Well, it was remade in the '80's for HBO with Richard Thomas as Paul, Bess Armstrong as Corie, and Barbara Barrie as Corie's mother. I can't remember who played Mr. Valasco.
But for a big-screen remake,here's who I'd cast:
Corie- Reese Witherspoon
Paul- Ryan Gosling
Corie's mother- Jill Clayburgh
Mr. Velasco- John Lithgow

The recent broadway revival with Patrick Wilson and Amanda Peet could also work on screen. Wilson isn't a "star" yet, but he has some very good film credits to his name.

And he's not shy about appearing naked onscreen, which is a plus...
not that there's nudity in the original script but, hey...

reply

HAHA! I too would be in complete support of that.

Spike Lee as Paul
Selma Blair as Corie
Susan Sarandon as Corie's mother
Wayne Knight as Mr Velasco

What a great flick that would be.

Nobody. But who cares what we say. Jennifer Aniston is a good pick for Jane Fonda. It would be nice if the guy was a bit of a dreamboat. But otherwise, yes, Patrick Wilson is a good choice - clean cut, regular guy-type and a very fine actor.

Jane Fonda should play the mother-in-law.

Ryan Reynolds and Scarlott Johanssen

My wish would be Charlize Theron and Matt Damon.

Realistically, Emma Stone and...wait for it...Orlando Bloom.
