This and Far From Heaven make great parallels

Think about it Far From Heaven ends tragically for Julianne Moore and Dennis Haysbert because the time period doesn't allow the two to be together because of societies prejudice but with Guess Whose Coming To Dinner, the parents of the young couple put aside their differences and embrace their children's union. This was essentially the Brokeback Mountain for the 60's and it came at the peak of the civil rights era. Such a great film with great performances and a wonderful speech by Spencer Tracy.

You guys should see the marathon I did with Guess Whose Coming To Dinner called When Love Wins Over Society. I created this marathon as a parallel to a previous one called When Society Fails On Love. Whereas that one with Far From Heaven dealt with society failing on each romance, the marathon for Guess Whose Coming To Dinner deals with love prevailing over societies prejudices. I hope you guys enjoy these two. You can check them out on my blog.

Agreed. Far from Heaven (2002) is set about 10 years earlier so the ending is of course different. Crazy how progress can be so quick. Hell, even two years before GWCTD came out, Olivier was playing Othello in blackface.

Interesting that we've come to the point in 2015 where in the film RIcki and the Flash, there's an interracial couple where race is never mentioned (but ironically, there's a lot of fuss about a same sex couple).
