Zachary Smith and Alexander Fitzhugh

How would they hay gotten along if they had BOTH on on board

reply

Easy: Fitzhugh would have pistol-whipped the limpwristed Zachary as soon as he screamed like a bitch after seeing a giant.

But first, Smith would have conned FItzhugh out of that big stack of money that he carried around for several episodes.

reply

Then they would have had sex in a giant condom!

I never thought I would ever say this, but ... lol!

I just watched the episode "Pay the Piper" with Jonathan Harris. There's a wonderful scene where Fitz does the old Dr. Smith routine of making a "deal" with the enemy alien. You can see the delight in Harris' face at the irony of the scene.

Later, when the Piper states his schedule for the trip back to Earth, he mentions he has some 'business to attend to' on Alpha Centauri -- A.C. of course, was the original destination of the Jupiter 2 in Lost In Space.

Allen's shows were great vessels of B-movie cliche's and cheesy antics, but they satisfied in the best manner.

I suspect they would have hated each other. Both were capable of being treacherous and cowardly, and both were clever schemers. But there was one big difference. Smith was an irredeemable jerk, whereas Fitzhugh was a little more complex: he was capable of being brave, noble and kind, although he did not do it often. He seemed to have developed a bond with his comrades. I think Fitzhugh would have found Smith to be an extreme version of himself and been disgusted with him.

Both character elements of Smith and Fitzhugh were combined to make the character of Jeremiah Worth, the cantankerous, shipwrecked pirate in Irwin Allen's short-lived "Swiss Family Robinson" series of 1975-76.

So many similarities between This and Lost in Space. One of the biggest being the cowardly, selfish and neurotic characters of Dr Smith and Fitzhugh. Then there's there's the similarity in the type of relationship they have with the young boys of Will Robinson and Barry Lockridge.
