Does anyone know?

Just how much of the film and which parts were directed by Perry and how much by Pollack? Have read the latter did everything from one scene to reshooting much of the movie. And does anyone know why Perry was replaced?

roncerabona asks: And does anyone know why [director](Frank) Perry was replaced?

The film's Trivia page says:

After the first rough cut was screened, Sydney Pollack replaced director Frank Perry with the latter still remaining the credited director for contractual reasons. Allegedly, Perry did not finish directing this film because of creative differences and was fired by producer Sam Spiegel.

Also, a primary pool scene was re-shot with another actress:
Barbara Loden's ("Shirley Abbott") scene with Lancaster was omitted from the film and was entirely re-shot with Janice Rule playing the part.
Does anyone know WHY the pool scene with Barbara Loden as Ned's old girlfriend was re-shot with actress, Janice Rule? Barbara Loden was a good actress (Kazan cast her in his films and eventually married her - see IMDb)

Apparently an explanation is offered in the documentary featured on the new DVD (which I haven't seen). There's a summary on this page:
