Ned's girls dead?

I don't know but for some reason when I watched the film, I thought that Ned's girls had been killed in some sort of an accident. Going through the posts and the reviews, I haven't found anyone saying that. For me it somehow felt obvious, it felt that Ned was in denial of the death of his children.

Is this what happens, or am I the only person the reach such an inference?

No, they had been in trouble with the law, but people wouldn't be talking about them the way they did at the public school if they were dead.
