Where was Cheever?

John Cheever allegedly did a cameo as "pool party guest" in this. Anyone know where it is? Unfamiliar with what he looks like but Ned has totally extraneous brief exchange with a fellow who can't even remember dialogue right before he (Ned) and the blonde ex-baby sitter go into pool house for glass of champagne. Performance is so amateurish I figured it might be him or friend of someone else connected to film.

Cheever was in the scene at the pool party. Recall that Lancaster says and i para phrase, 'there is so and so the life of the party,' about a guy floating and asleep in an inner tube in the middle of the pool. Then Lancaster and the young girl go over and greet shake hands with a bunch of people. Well the short guy with white hair was John Cheever our illustrious author. He makes a comment to Julie but you can't hear it -- it is a cameo in every sense -- but he IS in the film.
