Finally Saw this film

I finally got around to seeing this film on TCM yesterday. It was great. Such a wonderful "Coming of Age" film. It was truly enjoyable. Too bad this classic has been over-looked for decades; it should have received an Oscar nomination for Best Picture. Too bad that young Mitch Vogel left acting. He went-on to do Bonanza then disappeared from Hollywood; what a great talent. I understand that McQueen was very difficult to work with on this film and gave director Mark Rydell a bad time. John Williams did an excellent Music Score as well. Sorry it took me 40 years to see but I still haven't seen "Citizen Kane" or "Maltese Falcon".

I finally Saw this movie as well. I call it a Happy Accident, that is turning on the TV and this was the movie that was on and before I knew it I was hooked. All around great movie with some fine talent. I wonder why this movie hasn't become a classic over the years. My first guess it got over shadowed by "Paper Moon" but this movie Predated that by 4 years.

Over all I'm glad I found it and now Will put it on my List of Movies to look for on DVD.

After being frustrated twice by coming in near the end when it showed on TCM, last night I finally happened to turn on TCM shortly after it started. Was very pleased both to finally see it and delighted at this wonderful romp of a movie. They definitely took the best parts of the book and improved on it at least as far as the pace. The acting was also wonderful and everything about it very well done. It's a shame not all movies adapted from books can do such justice to the original material.
