Did anyone enjoy the stephanie years?

Mike and Gloria left for California. Stephanie was a girl left on their door step by a cousin and they take her in. I felt Stephie lead to some good episodes bringing out Archie's heart. I really felt bad for the little girl, but her antics with Archie kept the drama to a medium.

The Stephanie years were fine, but nothing beats Archie's fights with Meathead. What killed the show was when Edith died.

reply

Was that on the spinoff Archie's place? I never saw it. How did that happen.

reply

Edith died in her sleep, but Archie didn't know it at the time and was yelling at her to cook his breakfast. He told this story since the death scene wasn't actually shown. I watched only a few episodes of the spinoff. The heart of the show was missing.

That's sad. I'm glad Jean stated till the end of the original series. She was a kind, good hearted woman who deserved better in life and watching her go out like that would be like losing a parent yourself. Jean was a lovely woman.

She wanted to leave the show. She died from a stroke in the first episode of the second season of the spinoff. Perhaps they should have just ended the show since three of the original actors had left and it became empty and depressing which is why I stopped watching.

You're right. Edith's death totally bummed me out when it aired.

Find yourself a girl and settle down
Live a simple life in a quiet town

I agree. First Mike and Gloria, Chuck cuttingham died, Teresa moved out and Blanche left her husband for the last time. It would've been only Archie if Jean was dead set on leaving.

Your friends have shown a kink in the single life
You've had too much to think, now you need a wife

On the old board. Someone asked that question and an interview revealed she had grown tired of the character in season nine. I say she stayed on board as the continuation from all to place would be smoothly and had it in her contact of serving on for a limited time.

There were some good episodes. I enjoyed the one where Edith went to get a loan for a new TV.
The one where Floyd, Stephanie's dad wants to take her with him.....for money.
Another good one was when Stephanie did that little shimmy and shake , My Sister Rose routine at her school. It was cute when she did that for Archie at the bar.
I loved the ones where Archie lets that little girl know how much he cares for her.... When he gave her that Star of David pendant when he found out that she was Jewish.....
That time when she was stealing things because she didn't want to leave them behind. Archie was very kind and sweet at the end of that episode.
I don't care for the first season because Edith , Jean Stapleton seems DULL!
After she snapped out of it and actually started acting like someone who came out of a dream, things COOKED!
On a final note, I loved the episodes where they all went out to California for Christmas.

Those are some of mine. Yep Archie finding out Steph is Jewish, when they adopt her from Floyd even the last two parts where Edith is sick.

I agree. The first season was testing the limits and getting a feel. I felt the whole caste really breath life into characters by two. No longer stuck in their hard hitting roles
