The episodes with Archie missing

...I read that at the time there was a dispute between O'Connor and Lear about scripts and the content of the show and O'Connor went on strike.

What was the nature of this dispute? Did O'Connor think Archie was too extreme or something like that? I know both were liberal Democrats.

I looked for a book about the show at my library. They have books about many other shows but not this one.

I think I remember that it had to do with money. He wanted more.

No that wasn't what I read in a book called "The People's Almanac presents "The 20th Century"".

Could it be that you're thinking of Redd Foxx of Sanford and Son? He was gone from that show for a long time over pay.

I remember I was a pre teen when he went missing in the beginning of one of the seasons. I thought it was about money, but I don't quite remember. I was young, but I do remember reading an article about it in TVGuide.
