I Don't Get It...........

I just watched this for the first time. Yes this was a fine film with good acting for 1971 standards.

However, I do not get why this won 5 Oscars for best picture, best director, best actor, etc.

I also loathe the type of cheesy late 1960's/early 1970's background music that was in this movie. Other examples of this kind of background music is Dirty Harry, Bullitt, etc.

I am over 40. However, maybe I'm just too new fashioned???

Oh, good grief.

Ymmv, but that soundtrack IMO, fit right in with the story & dark and desperate characters..

the uber talented jazz trumpeter, bandleader and composer wrote the score.

Tell me, what style of music would have worked better? Iyo of course.

....over 40 is still too young.

I think that's it.

Hey there, Johnny Boy, I hope you fry!

I love the fact you believe acting is better today.

You also hate the background music. I then would happen to believe you must not like ANY movie made before New Kids on The Block started singing "Hangin Tough"

I loved the touch of music this movie did have. It wasn't overly done.

No, you just have bad taste. This is one of my favorites for several reasons and I'm 28.

I agree with the OP 100% Nothing about this movie was deserving of an Oscar nomination, let alone any wins. There was very little acting at all, and what little there was, was mostly between the french characters.

If this movie were released today it would have no higher than 5.0 rating on here.

reply

I wouldn't take that as an insult considering what gets rated high around here from most modern films.

I'm 45,and I thought this movie was way overrated. Oscar ? No way in hell did anything in this movie deserve an Oscar.
