in the opening scene did Harold actually hang by his neck?


Maybe you could pull that off but it's highly dangerous.

If he is hanging, it gives the mother a much more appropriate and darker intro, not caring that her son is actually choking himself for her attention.

I always assumed he was doing the "second loop around the waistband" trick that Winona Ryder did in "Heathers" when she faked her suicide, but that's only because I saw Heathers before I saw this film.
