Why is this on young girl's favortie film lists all of a sudden?

A few years ago, no one had heard of this except me in my age group. Now, it seems that most young women (ages 20-25) have this on their favorite films list.

Was there something that reinvigorated it? Like how Journey was the theme song on the MTV show The Hills, and everyone started singing Journey again.

It was mentioned in the movie "There's Something About Mary" and it's featured on several AFI lists. But other than that I don't know.

many emo/pop-punk bands have mentioned it in interviews.

kinda like how MTV Cribs boosts 'Scarface' interest.

messageboard rules are serious business. like really serious.

It isn't a bad thing if a film starts to get wide appeal. Nothing bad at all. It just shows today's youth is able to understand the message of the film.

Hail to the king, baby.

the only reason I even knew about it is because it was mentioned in Six Feet Under. It made me extremely curious and I watched it.

maybe girls that saw that show got curious too

they are the silliest audience thats why...

so if by your asinine comment you are trying to say that Harold and Maude is a "silly" movie you're a moron. as such your opinion is rendered moot. dismissed!

"Oh Penny, it's as if the Cheesecake Factory is run by witches"

I'm 17 and I really enjoyed it, and sometimes may even class it as a favorite. I don't know, it makes you feel something, I guess. It's like no other I had seen.

Well, I'm a 22 year old girl and LOVE this film so much!. I never even heard of it until a few months ago. For years, I've adored Joseph Gordon-Levitt and read somewhere about him liking this film. Like I said, I never heard of it so I looked it up, thought it looked interesting, and decided to give it a go. I borrowed it from the library, watched it for the first time on October, 21st, 2013, and fell in love. I just had to buy my own dvd then. Being that I don't buy many movies, me purchasing my own copy says a lot.

welcome to the world of Harold and Maude. i too found it one weekend when my parents had gone away and as a 16yr old alone i obviously 'explored' the house, finding a copy of this my parents had tucked away. that was in 1984, and i've only ever found one movie that has come close to topping it as my favorite of all time personally.

30 years later and i am still watching it again, getting ready to endure another valentines day lol
