Gun in the freezer

Why did Shaft have a gun in his freezer? I mean, does it do something to keep the gun in good condition, or is he just over-prepared?

I think it's because that's one of the last places a thief might search for one, but it's still easy for Shaft to access.

I was flipping through the channels the other day and I saw a movie where one of the main characters had a gun hidden inside his freezer. Perhaps they do it because no one would suspect it to be hidden there?

It's just to keep the gun as cool as he is.

I thought he was switching a registered gun for an unregistered one, knowing that something heavy was going to happen.

Yep that's what i figured as well.

...yeah, he was just staying prepared. But not as prepared as Christopher Walken's "Jamie Shannon" in "The Dogs Of War" (1980), who used the same tactic, plus he had pistols in drawers and all over his apartment.
