Remake?
Does anyone believe this movie would benefit with a remake?
This seems to be the very few movies that treats the male virginity plot with some class and not as a joke like many teen sex comedies.

Why does it need a remake ?
sharethat would be pointless.
shareWhy don't you send a proposal to Bryan Singer?
shareThis kind of movie would result in an angry backlash today.
shareLOL, I suspect you're absolutely correct.
shareOr they might change the story so he is an 18-year old who just graduated high school and this is his last carefree summer before going off to college far away.
shareExcept it’s based on a true story of one fateful summer in the director’s youth.
The real Dorothy did contact him by letter after the movie was a success. But too much time had passed, both had lives to live and that was that.
I'm sure LivingMCM knows that (not speaking for him but I strongly suspect). Lots of true stories have changes made for various reasons such as the circumstances with the Von Trapp family, but I do agree with you (assumption) that changing Hermie's age would devastate the story.
