Said by Mike Teevee's father. It was the ONLY line he had (since Mike's mother went with Mike on the factory tour.)

I was thinking, "He had to have nailed that in one take".

Well......

Watching the DVD with the cast commentary on, IIRC, it was Paris, who played Mike Teevee, that said that there must have been AT LEAST three dozen takes before he got the line right.



They should have that as one of the DVD extras in the next anniversary edition of the movie.....likely be 2021 -- the 50th anniversary of the movie.

Then again, DVDs will likely be obsolete by 2021. 

Just because he had only one line, doesn't mean he's gonna get it right in one take. Sometimes actors have to repeat lines so the editor can choose the best delivered line.

What is that thing you're using?.... It's technical.

In all honesty did he get it right in the final take? I have to agree with the OP he was a woeful actor.

There many ways to say just one line. It's likely they had him emphasis one word at a time to see what sounds best.

I cant understand how its possible to say "Not til you're 12, son" wrong the first 35 times. I'm pretty sure Paris was kidding

Probably wasn't much wrong with some of the other takes, the director just wanted to get the perfect one. IMO he did because that line got huge laughs at the theater (saw it tonight).

There is a bit of irony now with that line considering that you have these Trump supporting gun nuts who would buy their kids a colt 45 for their 6th birthday now.

I'm sure you don't include people who feel they have the right to protect themselves and their families with a firearm just because 'Bubba from Alabama' is nuts? The second amendment was passed over 150 years before Trump was even born and people behave like he passed the damn thing himself.
