Is Charlie's birthday gift a guaranteed dud?

"You gotta buy Wonka BARS to find one!"

It was pretty clear that the golden tickets were only in Wonka bars so what's up with whatever the sam hill Charlie got for his birthday??!! What is it supposed to be, anyways? Some sort of chocolate covered marshmallow?

Even if they were in other things besides Wonka bars, that wasn't made clear at any point in the movie. Every time we saw someone get a golden ticket, they found it in a Wonka BAR.

Ok, so I just watched the youtube video of "everything wrong with Willy Wonka" and the guy that made that video mentioned this as well. LOL

He called it a Wonka "moon pie" which makes sense. Same thing I said basically.

EDIT: It's also listed in the goofs section of IMDB but I didn't put it there. I hadn't read the goofs section until just recently for some reason.

You're forgetting different sized bars and different fillings...

reply

Maybe. But I'm not forgetting the difference between a candy bar and a god damn moon pie.

This needs to be explained since it appears to be a common misconception. ALL Wonka chocolate (supposedly*) had a chance of having a golden ticket. The Wonka Bar is the cheapest of the Wonka line of chocolates so when Charlie's family buys him one for his birthday they get a higher end 'moon pie' type. The low cost of the Wonka Bar is also the reason why Veruca's dad had his workers opening them, no sense spending more on them when all he cared about the was the golden ticket.

*The reason I say 'supposedly' is that was according to the marketing of the contest to the public. In reality, Wonka had specifically chosen all five of the children to receive golden tickets - four so he could punish them and one to Charlie as a test.

Veruca's father could easily have shelled out on loads of higher-end Wonka bars. I don't think money was an object to that family.

He's still a businessman and isn't pay more per bar than he has to.

There is o way Wonka planned to have those exact five kids in his factory.

Of course there was. Wonka gave told Slugworth to arrange for those 5 kids to receive golden tickets, that's why Slugworth was always there when the kid got the ticket.

reply

Slugworth was always there because the filmmakers were focused on making a movie to pair with a product and had short-sightings. Otherwise, why even pick the other four kids at all?
