Filming the wheel segments

For anybody who has attended a taping, are the wheel segments filmed chronologically as they appear in the show or are they both filmed immediately before the showcases?

I ask because it seems to me that it would be a lot of work bringing out the wheel and the carpet twice a show when they could do it just once with the six contestants and edit accordingly.

GOOD QUESTION!

The show is recorded exactly as it appears on TV. They even take real "commercial breaks", just a bit longer than the breaks on TV. Drew and George come out and speak/joke with the audience. They're very good ad-lib stand-up comedians.

During the breaks before the spinoff, they just roll out the wheel and throw the carpet down, and actually vacuum it quickly. It doesn't take long. They of course have this down to a science, and have quite a few stage hands.

At the end of our taping (My wife won a car!), George Gray had to re-record some descriptions for the Showcase Showdown that were unclear, or re-edited. Also during "Punch a Bunch" Drew Carey fubbed up the instructions and it had to be re-done.

Thank you!

It's so funny you asked this question skipper! We attended a taping in 2016 and they rolled the wheel out for both segments. And I answered your question above based on that knowledge.

I just heard that this season, they changed it and now they wait and tape both "wheel" segments at the end, and edit the tape! You were on to something! This does save them significant time, and makes good sense!

HA HA!! Crazy! I wonder what took them so long?

Obviously one of the producers is reading MovieChat!
