needs (and deserves) a widescreen DVD release!

reply

What is the holdup on the DVD?
Does anyone know?

reply

It is on DVD. About $9.00 on amazon.

reply

pan & scan version though. Yuck!

reply

That is a major disappointment. This is a great movie.

reply

I've contacted Paramount and requested a widescreen DVD from them directly.

Record your own copy, if you can. One of the best modern showcases for this film has been on Turner Classic Movies. They show it semi-frequently, including tonight @ 8pm, in glorious letterboxed widescreen.

reply

Kudos to them for doing that. I've recorded it onto DVD from TCM's broadcasts.

The last time I had seen it widescreen was in the theater 30-some years ago when I was a kid!

reply

Hear, hear.

^I couldn't agree more!
It took me forever, though, to even find the pan & scan version. What's the problem, I wonder?

reply

It IS on widescreen, and the print is high quality (I just watched it). It's the version produced by KOCH Vision. According to Amazon (where it is available), it was released in November, 2008.

Mill Creek Entertainment has released it on DVD in widescreen. It's available as a double feature with the 1959 adaptation of A Dog Of Flanders.

That same double feature disc makes up the first side of the first of 3 flipper discs available in this set from Mill Creek as well, which contains 12 films total.
