1. How can these 17(?) year old school kids afford to drive cars like that?

2. How come they all stay out literally all night (except Carol). No parental curfews?

It was a different time.

Most cars are their parents'. And yes, they would just stay out ignoring their parents, or some parents wouldn't even care.

3. Why do all the kids at Freshman hop look 18 and older? Freshman are usually 14.

Children and people in their late teens had a lot more freedom in the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s. Continuous parental surveillance and hovering didn't become the norm until the last few decades.
