very good creepy movie, but it seems a bit odd the old man would go through all the trouble to close off the fireplace with 4 layers of brick and iron bars, but only use one little bolt to close off the ash shoot. did this bother anyone else?

Yes, that is one of those mindless plot conveniences. Ah, just shrug, laugh and carry on.

It's a great one, so i'll cut 'em some slack.
