One thing doesn't make sense... SPOILERS!!!

SPOILERS!!!

This is my rave fave wiseguy flick, but one thing makes absolutely no sense.

Why did Charlie...

SPOILERS!!!

...drive to Brooklyn at the end?

Charlie said that he was going to Greenwood Lake, which is northwest of NYC, but instead they went to Brooklyn, which is due east from Little Italy.

It makes no sense that he would go to Brooklyn when guys were out to get Johnny Boy.

Does anybody know if there is a deleted scene that would explain why they foolishly went to Brooklyn?

Any insights would be much appreciated.

Yeah, I rememember Johnny Boy and Teresa laughing at him, but I still find it quite odd that Charlie would end up in Brooklyn since he was in his early thirties, had a driver's license and was from Little Italy, which is super close to Brooklyn.

As a kid in my 20's from New Jersey, I knew how to get to Brooklyn and how NOT to. I dunno... it just made no sense to me.

Then again, I do recall Charlie (was it him?) saying that he didn't know his way around the Village, which is very close to Little Italy. I guess that he was mostly used to just walking around his neighborhood.

Maybe he was setting Johnny boy up? That's possible

Not sure, but I got the feeling Charlie doesn’t actually know how to drive to Greenwood Lake. Maybe he really hasn’t made up his mind about what he’s going to do. We don’t know what he’s supposed to do with Johnny in Greenwood Lake anyway.

I sort of doubt he’d have set Johnny up for a hit with himself in the same spot when the hit took place.

I could've sworn he missed the turnoff to Greenwood Lake and he HAD to keep heading to Brooklyn before he could turn around. I'll have see it again.

The whole idea of them not knowing their way around the Village or Brooklyn comes from Scorsese's childhood. I remember in an interview where he said the first time he left Little Italy was to apply for NYU college uptown. He said there was no reason to leave the area he grew up in because everything his family needed(pork store, deli, bakery) were a few blocks away.
