Thaaw aside, as he attempted to do a London accent; why were there so many characters with northern accents? Northern accents are seen as slow and backward in London.

Any villain with an ounce of nous would travel far to go thieving in order to minimise being identified.....I imagine.

I remember a Northern character who actually WAS supposed to be slow...I can remember him referring to some cars as "foreign dreck" (you don't really hear the word "dreck" used much nowadays). The actor later turned up as a very sharp Detective Chief Inspector in Juliet Bravo.
