As a critic put it, Scaramanga was the mirror for the wrong Bond. Moore wasn't an assassin that could rival him - he was more of a gentlemanly spy and a lover. The scenes of Moore being aggressive were awkward and out of character.
I would have saved this movie for Dalton and made it a serious plot.

Moore could do everything the other bonds could do, i think his duel with Sacramanga was good, it made a change from the usual thing of trying (and failing) to get him eaten by sharks or something.
shareBeing his second movie, it's quite apparent that Roger Moore hadn't quite nailed for figured out his interpretation of Bond yet (which didn't really happen until The Spy Who Loved Me). Even Moore himself, wasn't comfortable w/ trying to be all tough and aggressive w/ Maud Adams (since Moore in real life, is a fairly charming, easy going, gentlemanly man), and that was put in at the assistance of the director.
