Should I watch the series first?

I'm planning on watching this tonight but am unaware as to whether I need the background information of the series to 'get' it.

Is it recommended I watch the series first or will it have no effect on the experience of the film?

You needn't watch Flying Circus first to get Holy Grail; they, like the other Python movies, are separate things. However, you totally need to watch it at one point because its hilarious.
