Kirk got what he deserved

He was being a jackass, and he entered the home without permission. Leatherface could have construed this as breaking and entering. Therefore, it was justifiable homicide.

Never go poking around other folk's property in rural Texas, really bad idea.

Okay, but Franklin wasn't even in the house. Not exactly justifiable.

reply

No, but Franklin was very annoying.

reply

Even if Leatherface wasn't already a cannibalistic psychopath, I'd say Kirk's "justifiable" homicide was a complete overreaction. Not to mention Pam's and Jerry's as well.

Franklin's murder and Sally's kidnapping and assault however would never hold up in court. Not even the most religious right-wing fanatic could defend the Sawyers for that.

It was meant as a joke, but seriously, its a bad idea to poke around and into people's homes without permission. You can be shot, and the homeowner can get off.

The early seventies was a different era. People hitchhiked and also would go into houses. People were more open at that time.

That type of law is on the books in many US States. Its similar to the 'stand your ground' law, under which George Zimmerman murdered Treyvon Martin in 2014, and got away with it.

Texas has the most lenient rules for home defense by property owners.

FACT: George Zimmerman did not invoke stand your ground in his defense. Prove me wrong.

I live in Texas and that law is still in effect, though a lot of people misconstrue it by thinking we're allowed to shoot/kill someone for simply trespassing on our property. The person has to actually break into the house or be attempting to break in. Only then can you use deadly force.

Pan told him over and over again to turn back. This was a salutary lesson in what can happen when men don't listen to women.

He certainly did. Only fools rush in.
