As iconic as all the other popular ones are...the estuary guy is the most tense/best filmed

ABSOLUTELY. Still looks incredible today.

Did you know the original filming of this scene? It was much more intense - guy is dragged by the shark while holding Sean across the estuary. https://youtu.be/Lc0KsiMsyZ4

Yeah, used to see stills galore of that shot. (long before the 'makings of' came about and shown that scene)

Apparently it was too gory and would have affected their PG rating

The creepiest aspect of his death is the shot of the girls sunbathing on land, wondering what all the shrieking is off in the near distance.

Yeah, I always thought the mid-established' (partially submerged) shot of Bruce was far better than the (full) "you're gonna need a bigger boat" reveal

Yeah, that is one of the best shots in the movie. The submerged shark rolling onto its side to go in for the kill.
