Clothes

It was pretty far-fetched, considering the popularity of scanty and sexy clothes in the '70's and only old ladies wearing frumpster styles, that these men preferred their wives to wear the ridiculous "Little House on the Prairie" get-ups that the women sported after their "transformations".

In the book, they were like Playboy models and wore sexy clothing. Because Nanette Newman was married to the director, Brian Forbes, they chose to be a little more discreet, and it worked because even though the appeared prim on the outside, in the bedroom they were sexy. Sometimes more is Sexier.

Oh I definitely agree with that and much prefer "feminine" over "sexualized" ANY day....only not in THAT fashion. Thanks for the background though - much appreciated!

The men possibly wanted their "wives" covered up as it would get real boring seeing a sexy machine all the time. I have always found a woman sexier when she is actually attracted to me by choice, not because she is designed, programmed or paid to want me. A Stepford sexual "clonebot" would get real dull real fast. The part where the programmed robot wife was "pleasing" her husband and called him the "Champion" and the "Master" was just too "push button".

Especially in the scene where all the men come over and one sketches Joanna to get ready for her "change". She is wearing that gorgeous long kinda crocheted dress with no bra and it was obviously cold in the room shall we say. I don't think one man looked her in the eye during that whole scene, lol.
