A few questions (SPOILERS)

Questions:

1. Why did the guy who was drawing Joanna immediately give her the picture? I presumed that his motive for drawing it in the first place was so that he could use it to aid in the specifications of her robot replacement. Did he think that the act of just merely drawing it as he saw her would be enough for him, enabling him to commit it to memory so quickly? Very implausible – makes no sense that he gave it to her right away. For that matter, why didn’t he just take a picture of her?

He did keep the sketches of her EYES, so I know that THEY were needed, but why not the rest of her face? Again – take her picture! Take several headshots where her whole face can be easily seen and replicated.

2. How do the husbands destroy and then dispose of the wives’ dead bodies?

3. Why was there a replica of Joanna’s bedroom at the men’s club? What was the purpose of that? Did it signify something? If so, I can’t figure out what it might be. My only theory is that maybe it’s just rubbing salt in her wounds -- “This (the robot) will be YOU now – the Joanna that will occupy YOUR former space from this moment on,” or some such thing.

1) The husbands share all of the wives possessions with Diz. I'm sure they have quite a bit of photos to work from when creating their copies.

2) I think it is all taken care of at the Men's association. That is where they are all taken. But the husbands kill the wives. What happened in Joanna's case was an anomaly.

3) Training. Nothing more needs to be said.

1) Yes, I suppose that could be the case, especially b/c Joanna was into photography, so they have many of pictures of her as well (which were obviously taken by others) throughout her life.

2) OK, that sounds pretty plausible. But my question was more graphic - i.e., HOW did they kill the wives and what do they do with the dead BODIES?

3) Hey, that's a good theory. I guess I can go with that.

Training for what?? They killed Joanna, didn't train her, and the robot would just be programmed.

According to cognitive developmental robotics, robots have to be trained to develop their cognitive functions. A top down approach where you program the robot will not work, because we don't know exactly how the human brain works. So: you build a robot and make it learn things from interaction with the environment in which it is embedded (humans are of course a vital part of this environment).
