Was Professional Pinball Playing Really So Lucrative Back In The '60?


I can't quite help but question if this is an example of a plot hole?

It was long before my time but were there really pro pinball leagues and star players earning vast fortunes in front of huge audiences?

I think not. I believe this to be a clear fabrication. Thus placing this entire endeavour far below the winner in the genre - Jeff Wayne's War Of The Worlds.

In the musical at least, he's more of a traveling freak show/superstar. It never mentioned pinball competitions. The Pinball Wizard was just a guy who was great at pinball. Yes Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds is boss.
