Did Aunt Elizabeth see the chauffeur ?

That horrifying scene where she lay dying in Ben's arms. She screamed when the chauffeur barged into the bedroom with the coffin. Did this mean the chauffeur, which was just a hallucination of Ben, became real?

reply

I think so. because it Represented death. he had the casket coming at her. and Ben looked down after seeing him. so I think she saw him.

I thought she could be seeing something different but what Ben was seeing was so crazy and scary there's no reason she couldn't be seeing the same thing and be frightened as well.

The chauffeur represents Death, and Death was coming for Aunt Elizabeth (goodness, Betty played her scenes so well!). Ben sees death as the chauffeur because that is the old dream that the evil house is bringing back to him, but I think Aunt Elizabeth sees Death as it would appear to anyone who is dying. To fit the theme of the film and Benji's nightmares, we the audience see the chauffeur.

I am not a fan. I just happen to enjoy movies. Fans are embarrassing.
