First horror film ever

God, so weird to see this again, this was literally the very first horror movie (well, outside corny disney "scary movie" type horror) I ever saw. I remember going to the video store and finding the box when I was about 7 or so, my mom tried to convince me that an R rating meant it was "retarded" and tried to get me to pick another one but I ended up flatly insisting I get to see the cool movie with the alligator on it. Finally she relented and I got this. I remember absolutely loving it, thought it was the most hard-core thing ever in the history of the world. In retrospect, I could have picked one hell of a lot more better movies.

Come to think of it, my mom was pretty awesome, letting me rent an R rated graphic horror film at 7 lol...began a lifelong love of horror cinema and grindhouse films. But then, my mom actually sat with me and was willing to explain the distinction between reality and a movie where most parents use movies as electronic babysitters these days, so I guess it was just a different era. We didn't worry that a grindhouse horror flick would turn our children into gun-toting mass school spree killers...kind of surprised in retrospect I wasn't scared to death at that age, but I just kind of treated it like an incredibly intense action film...good times lol

Actually the media tried to put that fear into people, and still do. Maybe not school shooters but tried to say horror fans would become homicidal maniacs and series killers, and let's not forget Siskel and Elbert's crusade against Slasher films.
