The Bear's Scientific Name


In the movie the scientific name for the bear is "pleistocene arctodus ursos horribilis. The novelization of the movie calls the bear a "throwback". So I think the film makers were saying the bear had some characteristics of the now extinct Great Short-Faced bear(its height). Where the movie makers when wrong is saying that this was some type of extinct bear that some how survived. If the novelization came out either before or even after the film was in theaters, the studio should have still called Prine, George and Jaeckel back in to reshoot the scene where Jaeckel says what the bear is, him saying instead that the bear was a throwback and giving the meaning for that
