If it’s foretold …

Then why fight it?
Maybe just accept your fate.

Saves us a movie.

If someone came to you tomorrow and asked you if you wanted to know your own fate, would you want to know?
And if you did find out, would you not try to prevent it?

The whole fun of this movie is to watch a no-nonsense nonbeliever gradually come to believe the impossible about his son, to the point where he is certain he must kill him in ritual fashion. In his commentary, Richard Donner admitted he found it necessary to direct as if all of the unusual happenings were coincidence. Thorne is a man smart enough to eventually accept the evidence that his son is the devil but not smart enough to know that, if true, he cannot be stopped.

I wouldn’t want to learn my fate. And if I somehow did, I don’t know what I’d do.
But I’m not very excited these days about fighting what cannot be stopped.
