Does anyone know?

What was the name of the Princess that Edward ended up marrying? Was it Selena?
Thanks from Sbtgurl.

reply

Ummm...He married Cinderella. He almost married another girl, but the Fairy Godmother stopped it from happening.

He didn't end up marrying whatever-the-wrong-girl's-name-was...it could have
been Selena, but I'm not sure any more.

(And I'm suddenly reminded of the delightful almost-marrying scene in Ever After,
which I've seen more recently...when the Spanish queen is yelling at the
Spanish king, "Tu culpa, es tu culpa" ["Your fault, it's your fault!" ^_~]
[that their daughter didn't do what they wanted, I suppose! ^_~].)

I'm borrowing this thread to ask about this:

Runtime: 146 min / USA:127 min

Why is/was the USA version shorter, what was cut?
(There were no new scenes on my (R2) DVD when I got it, so I'm assuming us Brits have always had the full version. @.@ )

reply

The new VHS and DVD has the British version. In a book I read, I can't remember the title, after the New York premiere several of the musical numbers were cut (the "Find a Mate" song that came before "A Bride Finding Ball" song, the stepmother and the stepsisters' songs were cut and the scene of the fairy godmother's home.) The audience complaint was it was too long. They loved the scenes with Gemma and with Richard. The Duke of Montague was liked as well (although some people I heard thought he was gay). In the TV version, the scene in the crypt is cut.

the song "i cant forget the melody" was cut from the us version too. it su because it is one of the best songs i think.

reply

There was NO song for the Stepmother or the Stepsisters.

reply

As far as I know it was "what has love got to do with getting married", and "I can't forget the melody" that were cut. They were also missing from the US vinyl soundtrack release (by MCA).

reply

Yes, they were cut for the American release (which i managed to see at least ten times on the big screen way back when).

Got the Bluray last week & having watched the movie numerous times I'm inclined to think that it was not Selena. Carolsfeld was mobilizing so Edward needed to marry another princess to form an alliance. I think that the royalty that is seen during the first courier delivery of the portrait invitation is Carolsfeld. There is no close up but it looks like the princess has a wig on (not powdered) and promptly swoons at the sight of Edward's likeness. Sounds as if the king and/or queen call out a name but the closed captioning does not pick it up. She might have been to sickly to travel to the ball.

OTOH the Duke's future bride wears an elaborate jeweled headress both at the ball and at the wedding ceremony giving the impression of baldness save for at the top.
