He does have a friend tho

When he shoots the robber at the shop, the shop owner knows Travis by name and helps him get away with an unregistered gun and never told on him.

If that isn't a friend then Idk either

Sounds like Travis is a frequent customer and the shop owner is grateful to him for dealing with the robber. That doesn't necessarily make him a friend, but maybe Travis should invite him out for a round of golf. He's got a pretty good swing.

That part always confused me anyway. So the shop owner says "Heyy Travis" happily when he comes in. "Que pasa?"
So, we can excerpt that Travis goes there regularly, maybe his most regular shop. And the shop owner likes him.
And a shop owner in general is probably not the most closed off person.

We can say they are either very shallow friends, or at least good acquaintances. Killing to save the shop owner is as nice as it gets, right?

So, I doubt that this event would make Travis go to a different shop afterwards. It's never shown in the movie but I bet Travis goes back there to buy his sweets and coke.

So, wouldn't they have shallow chit-chat at least, exchange some lines about the robbery... I mean, as the movie goes on, I can't imagine a scenario where Emilio the shopkeeper does not ask Travis stuff like what he's doing on New Years. I'm sure Emilio would invite him and he'd meet his beautiful daughter, Consuela. And she'd say
>ohh hello handsome
and he'd say
>I drive a taxi, sometimes I make 200-300 a night, more when the meter is off
and she'd say
>that is so exciting, tell me more

And then roll happy credits?
Seems a believable plot line to me.
