Which episode had the father come home to a big party?

Can someone tell me which episode it was when the father came home to a really big party at the house when he was supposed to be away?

reply

Wasn't that when Tommy was a senior and he had a big bash at the house--I remember that episode.

I remember on more than one occasion those kids had a party in the house that Tom and Abby didn't know about. and of course something ALWAYS happens.

I think one party was when Tom and Abby went away to her parents house in Pasadena. I think this was season 2. The next day, Tom and Abby telephoned and said they were coming early and all the Bradford kids had to clean up the house in a hurry.

The other party was when Tommy graduated (season 4) and he was just having a few friends over. They had to leave to help Nicholas' friend who had fallen and they took him to the ER. Meanwhile, back over at the Bradford house, the few friends turned into a huge party. That's when Tom and Abby walked into the house, saw the huge party but no Tommy.

Doesn't anyone remember the most interesting thing about one of these two party episodes (which would never happen nowadays on network TV on a 'family' show, we are really in more conservative times in some ways...) -- Tom and Abby sitting at the kitchen table discussing the whole incident, and then shrugging it off by digging into a platter of pot brownies one of the kids (not their kids..) had brought and left behind. Freeze frame ending. Classic - and pretty edgy (again, for a family show in prime time on network).

Yea, I think the show was kind of edgy. I believe Grant Goodeve (David) says the same thing in the Today Show Reunion in 2010. They had a lot of episodes that pushed the envelope for a "family" show. Tommy's underage drinking. Elizabeth wanting to go on the "pill". Joanie doing a nude scene in a play. Nancy sunbathing topless. Nicholas smoking. Mary moving in with her boyfriend. David moving in with Janet. All of these were a bit daring for their time.
