Why characters are all seeing psychotherapists in Allen’s films. Why does Annie need therapy? She doesn’t seem to suffer from any mental afflications.
sharePsychoanalysis was a big thing for upper class NYC residents in the 1970's/80's. People went to shrinks not out of just for mental problems, but to better themselves by trying to exhume deep seated childhood fears/experiences.
It has since fallen out of favor, drugs are now more common.
