No Oscar Nomination? - None

I understand that a lot ppl dont think this was a worthy oscar nomination for Best Picture (in my opinion i thought it was) , But no nomination of any kind (Sound, Sound Effect Editing, Film Editing, Cinematography, Art Direction, Costume Design) I dont it would've won with (Star Wars, Close Encounters)winning most or all them, But it Should've been Nomination for Atleast 7 Category.it just hard to wonder why it was nominated for any oscar.

Studio politics.

Surprisingly that the film got no Oscar noms.

Its that man again!!

It's certainly the sort of "Oscar-worthy" film that you'd think would pick up some nominations, even if they were just in the technical areas.

Jealousy.

Not really a fan of war movies , but this was far a better picture than Annie Hall. Maybe because it was a british film they ignored it .

reply

It was an Independent.

A Bridge Too Far did not have studio backing.

The Academy Awards are just a studio talent show, so guess what ...?

The Grammy's are worse in that regard.

reply

Star Wars and Close Encounters winning 'most of them'?

You do realize Close Encounters of the Third Kind won only one Oscar, right?

Never defend crap with 'It's just a movie'

The score was very good.

A) it was another WW2 film. Tons of those around.

B) for all of the planes, tanks, extras dressed up in uniform, it was a pretty plain film

There are no unique shots, there's nothing special about the SFX nor the sound FX, it's retreaded territory, and overall is a pretty plain movie with a few dramatic points here and there.

I don't follow the Oscars. I think they're a load of crap, and the people who are part of them are merely in the business of stroking their phallic egos, but sometimes they do get things right about who and what films are worth noticing.

This one was worth seeing, but it didn't do anything extraordinary for the war genre, nor film in general.
