A low point for Disney.
This movie was obviously a big production, and some serious money was spent on it. The choreography is fine. The acting is good.
However, the story and script are terrible. The dragon looks beyond ridiculous, as it was very obviously overlaid onto the film stock in post production. There are a few scenes where the invisible dragon is moving things, but they don't look very convincing either. This should have been a purely animated film, where the contrast would be less jarring.
This film was made around the same time as The Rescuers, but it's nowhere near as good as that film.
Really this was a low point for Disney. Disney's live action films have always been hit or miss. However as bad as films like That Darn Cat and The Strongest Man in the World were, they had a sense of their own ridiculousness. Many actually had a wry and quick sense of humor about them. This film lacked that brevity of wit, and is a chore to watch.
