No Commentary?

Any word if the new release will have a director commentary. I loves me some Friedkin commentary.

reply

Yes, it does.

I know Friedkin mentioned on his facebook he recorded one, but Amazon doesn't have it listed: http://www.amazon.com/Sorcerer-Blu-ray-Roy-Scheider/dp/B00HT2RTU6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1395781190&sr=8-1&keywords=sorcerer

I'm wondering if it wil be like the Fountain where Warners didn't want to release the commentary but Aronofsky just uploaded it himself.

I'm sure plenty of saps will pay 30+ dollars anyways. I'm sure that's what the studio thought so why bother putting in the extra work?

reply

Wow. That is incredibly disappointing. Friedkin has been on a mission to get the rights to Sorcerer for years, and all that effort culminates in some lousy bare bones blu ray release? One has to wonder whether the idea is to do the old double dip routine with the diehards, tricking them into buying this disappointing restoration followed by a later release of some sort of "special edition" with what we all wanted in the first place. Or maybe there is still some sort of lingering legalities.

Sounds like WB put the screws to Friedkin on this release in more ways than one. I suppose we'll see a Criterion release with all the bells and whistles as soon as everyone owns this release...

Check out the review Friedkin himself left for the 2014 UN-Remastered, Full Frame 2014 DVD on amazon:

This is William Friedkin. I did not authorize ANY dvd's. Only the blu ray.
The DVD is just awful. Avoid.

I was very disappointed with the lack of commentary.

Slightly off-topic but i'm also disappointed Drafthouse's Ms. 45 blu ray has no commentary by Abel Ferrara, though at least it has an interview with him...and actual special features in general.

A shame Warner Bros. just slapped Sorcerer onto blu ray with no bonus goodies because its a damn great movie having just seen it now, albeit with a gorgeous HD transfer.

Bummer. I mean I knew this before I purchased it, but still such a shame. I want all the deleated stuff that popped up in the European releases.

Good tag line there by the way.

Friedkin hyped it as having a commentary and exhaustive making of documentary earlier this year
Really?

I can get by without the commentary but, for a film like this, I'd love to see the making-of documentary.

WTF happened??
