Too bad Friedkin didn't like widescreen.

William Friedkin is the one responsible for the full frame aspect ratio. Like Jade, he insisted on a full frame release because he was worried what tv showings would do to his compositions. In the days before widescreen TV's and dvd releases this was a big concern. He even kept television viewings in mind when composing his shots.
