If Star Wars had failed...

But just think if the 77 movie was a bomb how history would be different. Lucas has said before if it failed he doesn't think his career would have went much longer. He might just did a TV movie to finish Star Wars. How it would have effected the Special Effect companies and how many people would have got into the movie business without Star Wars?

The "tentpole" summer blockbuster as we know it today might not exist!

But then again it might. Spielberg had some massive hits around the same period.

It may be the Christmas special everyone writes off. I think Star Wars was lucky in finding a quick audience instead of dismissed as a low budget sci-fi movie

Yep Close Encounters came out around the same time... the Star Trek films came out right after... Star Wars definitely gave studios the courage to take risks in that genre... maybe Alien or Blade Runner don't get made as easily... but it would've happened anyway. Lucas made the first one very cheaply... so it's not like they would've scared people off... however I'd say they were the catalyst and everyone tried to emulate his success.

If Star Wars had failed...Star Trek would have zoomed in and saved the day!!!

Star Trek:the motion picture would never have seen the light of day without the success of Star Wars.
