What happened to the blu-ray release from Synapse?

Like, two years ago, Synapse said they were starting work on a blu-ray transfer of the movie. So where is it? Has there been any word on it?

"They don't make straightjackets like they used to. I should know..."

reply

They are still working on the new transfer. They will announce a release date once the transfer is finished.

reply

Oh good. I was afraid it had been abandoned.

reply

I still cannot believe they're still working on it-- it's been in the pipeline for over three years now. I know Synapse does quality releases-- some of the best, in fact-- but come on already!

reply

The fact it's taking so long makes me wish they'd gone full force and done a 4K Ultra HD Blu-Ray version just so we could enjoy those colours in HDR/WCG. I bet it would look absolutely incredible with the right treatment.

Looking forward to the release anyway, and hope it's announced soon so I can add it to my collection.

reply

It's the Duke Nukem Forever of blu-ray releases.

reply

What's the point?
This low quality piece of trash isn't going to look any better, it is not possible
for this to look better just by putting it on a Blu-ray disc.

reply

Oh, it's coming! No street date yet, but it's up for pre-order.

LOTS of special features, most of them on the second disc in order to maximize PQ and SQ. And speaking of PQ, here's screenshots comparing the Synapse to the existing Italian Videa Blu-ray.

I think the green on the Videa makes it look muddy and low-contrast, whereas the Synapse version is brighter and bolder.

And for those you can't wait that long, the film is getting special screenings in both 4K and an ultra-rare Italian 35mm print in surprisingly good condition.

I've never seen Suspiria, but I'll definitely check it out one way or another.

It's after midnight, so technically, that means today is the official release date. People on the Blu-ray.com forums are saying the picture and audio are a revelation.

It's on my Christmas list. I'm eagerly awaiting it.

If you missed your chance to grab the limited-edition Steelbook last month, you're in luck. Synapse will be releasing their restoration in a much wider run. The date is set for March 13.

There's a DVD (which is pretty barebones), a single-disc Blu-ray (again, barebones), and the crème de la crème if you can't get the Steelbook... a two-disc special edition with everything that the Steelbook had, except for the Goblin soundtrack CD and the Steelbook artwork.

The 2-disc has reversible artwork with the original white figure/red blood on side side and Scream Factory-style artwork on the flipside.
