The barbed wire scene creeped me out as kid

I remember turning on the small fatscreen TV at midnight on Halloween about 14 years ago (I was 7 or 8) and the first thing I saw was a women getting chased by something (a killer, a creature, I didn't know).
I had absolutely no idea which movie it was and the transfer was washed out (+ it probably was a slightly censored version), it looked like a black and white movie, just the small window where she tries to escape from the killer was colored yellow or orange.
I re-watched this scene now on Blu-ray and the scene is mostly blue and the window is yellow.
I was in the cellar watching TV, alone, in the darkness at midnight and I had no idea what that was, the close ups of the killer's hand and the part where he tries to open the door creeped me out (you never get to see him) and of course the part where she gets cut by the razor wire or barbed wire. It was mesmerizing and shocking, will never forget that experience.
Since then I tried to find the movie and couldn't because I didn't know the name but I am glad that I found the scene via YouTube a few years ago.
It was one of the first horror films I have ever seen, my first one was "Pet Sematary II" at the age of 6 (during the same night I saw "Suspiria" I also saw a washed out copy of "Halloween" by John Carpenter on TV, but just the scene where Michael chases Laurie in the bedroom and she hides).

Yeah, it's a good scene, though the opening murder will forever be my favorite.

reply

I couldn't take that scene seriously. I mean, who keeps that much piano wire at one location in the first place?

reply

There are a couple of ways you could interpret the events of this scene, but I don't think "the wire just happened to be there" is one of them.

reply

Exactly. The room full of razor wire is obviously there expressly for the sadistic torture & murder of victims.

Those are some really evil witches, y'all.

Send her to the snakes!

reply

First of all there's no razors and nothing barbed about the wires in the movie. She just gets tangled up in some wires. She wouldn't really be moving and trying so hard to get out of it if it had razors now would she?

reply

She wouldn't be sliced up like that if it wasn't razor wire.

You are sin.

reply

I was also going to say I wasn't sure it was supposed to be razor wire or just wire. It doesn't really look like razor wire or barbed wire, but it does seem to slice her up quite a bit....

reply

I assume the wounds were from the slash that her persecutor made with the shaving knife. It's clearly "normal" wire, not razor or barbed.

Excuse my english 😓

reply

Watching the 1080 version, it's very clear that the wire is smooth. Whether or not it's supposed to appear that way is another matter...

reply

Yeah. You can tell she's intentionally led into that room. Why else would her attacker take so long to flip open the latch?

You are sin.

reply

I don't understand why her attacker could have just held the lock down.
