The Indian Dude

The Indian ship captain is hilarious, what a great part to the movie, like Apu from The Simpsons.

Agreed! He is one of the best things about the 1978-version!

He reminded me a lot of the characater, Ali Nadim, a Pakistani, in the British comedy, Mind Your Language. What's interesting is that the first series of MYL began in December 1977, and DOTN was released in October 1978, so it's not impossible that the actor, I.S. Johar, caught some of the series before shooting took place in the Spring/Summer of 1978.
