I remember too. Me and my female friends saw this in a theater in Philadelphia on Broad street. Eric Roberts was HOT to us then, we knew he was going to be a big star.
So what happened.....? Well, he IS an actor. I loved him in Star 80 and to me he should have won a few awards for that. But here's the thing...Eric's acting is very "intense" and that's what a lot of directors saw.
For example, he auditioned for Wall Street - the role Charlie Sheen ultimately received. Oliver Stone didn't choose Eric because he said Eric was "too intense". When I think back, Eric WOULD have overpowered that role - naturally. But I still can see him play it.
The "too intense" thing I believe followed him around a bit in his early career but since, Eric has MORE than shown he could be so versatile.
My opinion only.
