This was really boring. It really didn't seem that the doll was evil at all, really it is just Corky is insane. It seems that he "thinks" the doll is evil and imagines it all. The doll is just a medium. Any thoughts on this.

I agree. It is very creepy as we watch a man who seemingly can have anything and everything and slowly descends into madness. It's not a horror film but a thrilling character study. Perhaps it is a bit slow and there isn't much action but it is quite compelling in my opinion.

i agree. the synopsis on the 'info' on cable when i JUST watched it said it was about a ventriloquist with "split personalities in this psychological thriller"...... sooooo there ya have it. it's a psychological thriller about a man who is a ventriloquist & the man has split personalities... it gives it all away right there. there's no guessing "is it a killer doll? is the man insane? is the man insane & the doll does it? or is the man insane & he's doing the killing himself?"
by the end, much less by the end of reading the description, you pretty much get it. LMAO trust me. i know i did. the doll is a physical way of expressing his 'split personality', which is not a very nice personality. it wants to seem so, but he doesn't deal well with people who get in his way of getting what he wants... why else kill your agent, & the husband of your lover? lol
me? i liked it... a lot. maybe the premise of the movie has been heard 10 times... or more ---- but the acting was great, lighting was superb for the genre, & the writing & directing were spot on.
i think it's the genre you're hating on, not this movie in particular for it's specific 'ingredients'. that's just me though. am i right or wrong on that?
i love psychology, & so love love love psychological thrillers that mess with your mind the whole time..... as well as ones that admit this so to speak: "this is a psychological thriller. the character is psycho, and you - the viewer- are well aware of that now. pretend the other characters have no clue he's crazy, though... until otherwise stated by the characters themselves. ok? enjoy"

Movies like Magic are more appealing to my taste. Psychological Thrillers are a differant breed than horror movies laced with gore like the series of Friday the 13th, Saw, and Chainsaw Massacre. Anthony Hopkins was great and this movie should have a higher rating.
shareI find it really annoying when people say those words instead of giving a more literate and constructive criticism of a movie. How about "The movie didn't work for me," or "I didn't like it and it didn't scare me, and here is why..." and then tell what you think as to where it didn't work adn for what reasons in your mind. It really is not hard. I have an expression I use which is, "'It sukcs!' is never constructive criticism."

I thought it was an intelligent film, and both Anthony Hopkins and Ann-Margret make a great couple.

You didn't like the film because you are of the CHUCKY era, where dolls come to life and wreak havoc. This is NOT about that, this is about a sociopath. Perhaps the film is a little too deep for you, no offense.
