Irene Miracle told a cool story about Lucille Ball

When Irene Miracle was nominated for a Golden Globe for playing Susan in Midnight Express (1978), she tripped and fell as everyone was hurrying into the ballroom the night of the ceremony.

She was briefly trampled by the mob and wound up on the wrong side of the velvet cord, unable to convince the security guards that she belonged inside.

Others in her group finally realized she was missing and got security to let her in, but she was an emotional wreck the entire evening.

When she won the award, presenter Lucille Ball welcomed her to the stage. Ball sensed something was wrong and gave her a consoling hug, telling her, “Don’t worry honey, you just enjoy this moment because it’s all yours, baby.”

Miracle said in interviews years later that that memory of Ball’s warmth and support still gave her strength when she needed it.
